Barcelona have joined Bayern Munich in the chase for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon ahead of the summer window.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been a regular coverage of Bayern Munich’s interest in the forward.

Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that the Bundesliga side hope Newcastle United will lower their asking price of around €85m.

Barcelona’s interest in the 26-year-old may make a potential deal for Bayern Munich more complicated.

The La Liga side are looking to improve their left wing for next season and have lined up a few targets.

Newcastle United star on Barcelona’s list

RAC1 report of the Catalan club’s interest in Anthony Gordon. Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo picks up on that and covers the latest.

The Newcastle United man is the ‘dark horse’ target for Barcelona sporting director Deco. The Camp Nou side appreciate his pace, ability to operate across several positions and other technical qualities.

Barcelona watched him up close in the two-legged Champions League tie in March and the England international made a positive impression.

Eddie Howe’s side are asking for €85m and this is the major stumbling block for the Spanish giants.

Another Catalan newspaper, Sport, after relaying RAC1’s report, back up Barca’s interest in the attacker.

Journalist Carlos Monfort covered this report for Sport. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post a video of Gordon’s agents arriving for a meeting with Deco.

Unique Sports Group represent the Newcastle United man. Agents Will Salthouse and Adam Dugdale of the agency have been touring Europe in recent weeks.

The agents were at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper [Barca’s training centre] last week for a transfer meeting. Hansi Flick’s side held talks with the representatives to find out the conditions to sign the England international.

Sport state: ‘Sources consulted claim he has already received offers of around €80m, a figure that seriously complicates any attempt by Barca.’ There’s no mention of which club[s] have submitted these proposals.

For now, the Blaugrana aren’t ruling out anything. However, the price makes it difficult for them to bring the Newcastle United star to the Camp Nou.

Contract, value and stats

Anthony Gordon has 17 goals and five assists from 46 matches for Newcastle United this season.

His contract at St James’ Park expires in 2030, and Transfermarkt value the attacker at €60m.
