Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak has been linked to a few top clubs and Barcelona are one of them.
The striker has impressed for the Magpies this season, managing 21 goals and five assists from 30 games.
There’s been growing interest in the Newcastle star and recent claims have stated Barca are in the mix.
Tuesday’s edition of Sport states the Sweden international was offered to the La Liga club, along with his compatriot Viktor Gyökeres. The latter has starred for Sporting and is expected to change clubs in the summer window.
The newspaper claims there were serious options to reduce Gyökeres’ price, but neither he nor the 25-year-old will join Barcelona.
Robert Lewandowski is currently leading Barcelona’s attack and scored 32 goals already this season. The 36-year-old Pole’s contract lasts until 2026, with an option for another year.
The report now states the Catalan club have already exercised the option even before the conditions were fulfilled. This was done because Hansi Flick and Barcelona both wanted to let Lewandowski know that he will be the club’s striker next season.
Sport claim Isak and Gyökeres are the ‘biggest victims’ of Barca’s latest decision to bet on Lewandowski for next season.
Barcelona have struggled financially in recent years and would have found it difficult to take Isak away from Newcastle. That didn’t stop them from coming up with a narrative that the Catalan club aren’t interested in Isak.
