Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Dan-Axel Zagadou, according to reports coming out of France.

The Frenchman left Paris Saint-Germain for the German club in 2017 and his current deal runs down at the end of the season. Marco Rose has expressed his desire to retain the 22-year-old and also remains hopeful the defender signs a new deal at the Signal Iduna Park.

Foot Mercato now claim the Bundesliga side have started discussions to extend the former PSG man’s contract beyond this season. The two parties have not reached an agreement so far, allowing other clubs to contact his agent for a potential deal next summer.

That’s what Manchester United did as the report explains the Red Devils have approached the centre-back’s representative, Moussa Sissoko.

Apart from the Old Trafford club, several European clubs are keeping tabs on the player and this includes, the Magpies.

It’s claimed Newcastle are ‘exploring this track’ for the transfer of the BVB defender.

Foot Mercato further state some of Zagadou’s suitors are in more advanced process than United, but it isn’t made clear whether this includes Eddie Howe’s side.
