If there’s one player who probably should leave Newcastle in January, it’s Achraf Lazaar.
Coming close to sealing a move to Genoa over the summer, the Moroccan left-back saw the deal fall through at the last minute, and he’s now sitting on the stands at St James’ Park on a regular basis as Rafa Benitez refuses to trust him with game time.
Stuck in this position for a while now, the defender found some reprieve during the second half of last season when he was allowed to go on loan to Benevento, who ultimately got relegated back down to Serie B.
Fast forward to this January transfer window, and a similar outcome could be on the cards for Lazaar, as Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Niccolo Schira claims that Genoa are ready to come back with another attempt in January.
Newcastle are said to be open to the idea of a loan, which would make sense, seeing as all he’s doing these days is getting paid to train with the reserves.
There’s no details regarding what the offer would be, but if there was any common sense within St James’ Park, then they would negotiate some kind of loan with a view to buy in order to settle this unhappy marriage once and for all.
That’s, of course, if he performs.
