Tottenham Hotspur were credited with interest in Mohamed Simakan in April of this year, before Newcastle United were brought into the picture in May.
Liverpool were then said to be keen on the RB Leipzig player, so it’s perhaps a surprise there hasn’t been more transfer action around Simakan in the summer window.
That could be changing.
Sky Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg reports Newcastle United are now ‘exploring a deal’ to sign the 24-year-old from the Bundesliga club. Liverpool and Barcelona are also said to have made contact, however, it doesn’t seem like either of them went further than that.
Leipzig are presented as being open and ready to negotiate the defender’s exit, but they’ll only do so if suitable offers arrive.
There’s no indication of what a suitable offer would be.
Simakan has a contract with RB Leipzig lasting until June 2027. He can play in central defence or as a right back.
This push of claims to the German media may well be coming from his camp, to try and generate some interest in the final hours of the window.
