Having already spent €70m or so on Sandro Tonali, Newcastle United are still on the market for some new signings, including a new forward.
There has been talk the Magpies could go after a new winger, with Federico Chiesa touted, but there have also been murmurs about a new striker moving to St James’ Park.
One of the names that has been pushed a few times towards Newcastle by the media is Jonathan David, whom L’Equipe discuss on Friday.
The newspaper take a look at some of the moves Lille could end up doing this summer, with a lot of their transfer window relying on the sale of the Canada international, whom they are ‘looking to sell’.
Having set the bar at €60m, they are hoping for a striker domino effect in the coming weeks, which could see numerous clubs eye up their star as a replacement for any sales that are made.
While Newcastle aren’t actively looking to sell anyone, they are said to ‘have not said the last word’ in the hunt for David, who scored 26 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side last season.
Whether the Magpies actively go after him remains to be seen, but with Alexander Isak finding some form and Callum Wilson still more than capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis, you would think money could be prioritised elsewhere this summer on Tyneside.
Then again, who are we to argue with Eddie Howe if he does want a new goalscorer?
