Newcastle United are moving for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The centre-back joined the Serie A side from Genk in 2018 and has started in 36 league games since the start of the last season, which includes 15 starts in the ongoing campaign.
It’s claimed the Tyneside club like the Gambia international and have watched him ‘several times’.
They want to take the next step and the report states Magpies officials will travel to Italy in the next few days to start first contacts to sign the 27-year-old.
Sampdoria have no plans to let their player leave the club in the winter market and therefore, Steve Bruce’s side are looking to sign Colley after this campaign. The defender’s contract with the Italian side expires in 2022.
TMW doesn’t make it clear if Newcastle will start contacts with Sampdoria or with the player. In addition to this, there’s no mention if either Colley or his employer are open to the idea of transfer, even if it’s in the summer.
