Struggling to adapt to Premier League football, former Newcastle attacking midfielder Rémy Cabella quickly headed back to Ligue 1 on loan after a poor season in the north of England.

Quickly finding his feet once again with Marseille after arriving in the south of France, the Ligue 1 club made the loan deal a permanent one a few months ago by paying the pre-agreed amount to the now Championship club.

Well, according to La Provence in France, while the transfer has been done and signed, the fee is yet to be paid to the English club, because Marseille don’t have to just yet.

The local French newspaper reported on Tuesday morning that the Ligue 1 side have until, wait for it, 2021 to pay the fee to Newcastle.

Estimated to be at €9.2m, this news will be very good for the French club, who are expected to struggle financially this summer, unless someone buys them out, as is the hope of the current owners.

To be triggered after the player had made either 12 appearances or eight starts, no reason has been mentioned as to why Marseille have five years to pay it, but if true, this might be a slight annoyance to Mike Ashley.
