Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh has been told to think carefully about his future, and another potential year at Feyenoord.
Journalists Dennis Kranenburg and Dennis van Eersel cover the player today and what should happen in the summer when his current loan deal with Feyenoord comes to an end.
Minteh has been with the Dutch champions since the summer, having been sent to them by Newcastle immediately after they signed him from Odense.
The plan for the Magpies was for him to establish himself in Europe and get regular playing time in the Eredivisie, a league that has been a good breeding ground for young talent over the years.
Minteh has certainly been getting playing time and experience, establishing himself as a regular under Arne Slot and earning plenty of positive reviews.
The question is now what happens in the summer, with the current deal set to end and Newcastle yet to make a decision on his future.
Slot has consistently stated he would like to keep hold of the youngster for another year, even believing it may be best for his development, while Minteh has hinted he’d be happy with that even if his main focus is on Newcastle.
Kranenburg believes a second year at Feyenoord would make sense, but Van Eersel thinks Newcastle may have other ideas.
“It would be good for him to stay another year,” the former said on the Rijnmond Feyenoord podcast.
“He is only 19 years old. Another year of the Champions League will make Minteh an even better footballer and then Newcastle United will enjoy him more.”
“But isn’t Minteh just not good enough for the Premier League?” added the latter.
“Newcastle will also come to that conclusion. Maybe Feyenoord can rent him for two years in a row. But it could also be that Feyenoord does not have that need because they buy other players.”
