Following his performance in Feyenoord’s weekend draw against PSV Eindhoven, the name of Newcastle loanee Yankuba Minteh is on everyone’s lips.
Arne Slot, his manager in the Netherlands, was the first to congratulate him for his performance in the game, where the 19-year-old picked up a goal.
Relayed by Voetbal International, the Feyenoord boss was full of praise for the Newcastle man, even if he did have a bit of advice for him to improve as well.
He said: “He has made an excellent impression in recent weeks. He showed again today why Newcastle were willing to pay so much money for him. Sometimes, it’s better than others, but he is only 19 years old.”
This praise was echoed by Mario Beens, who was speaking on Dit was het Weekend, relayed by Feyenoordpings, about The Gambia international, who had similar remarks to make about the Newcastle player, who is set to return to St James’ Park at the end of the campaign.
He said: “I think left-backs lie awake at night because of him, but he does things sometimes… Surely he is the most dangerous forward at Feyenoord at the moment. Only he is a slow thinker. He always has his head down.
“That’s why he will always remain a big question mark. I think every left-back lies awake at night because he keeps running, he keeps going. But sometimes he does things where I think ‘just lift your head up for a moment’.”
Minteh was signed by Newcastle from Odense BK in Denmark last summer for €8m before sending him directly to Feyenoord on loan for the current camping.
Since his arrival, he has scored seven goals and assisted another three in 27 appearances, with three of those goals coming in the last two games.
