With Francisco Trincão previously having played for Barcelona and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United fans may find it strange that the Magpies are interested in him now that he’s at Sporting.
The winger is having a loan spell at the Lisbon side, and due to an purchase clause, he’ll complete the permanent switch in the summer window.
Now for those who are worried about Newcastle pursuing the player who may be at his lowest point league wise, Catalan outlet Sport features an interesting story on his spell at Sporting.
The outlet managed to get an interview with José Carvalho Araujo, who managed him in Braga’s youth ranks. He shared the opinion that Trincão wasn’t given the right chances at Barcelona, and he’s now finally living up to his full potential in Portugal.
“I think that Francisco is now closer to his people, to his family, he feels loved, protected by the coach. Amorim is the one who trained him on that course that exploded in Braga and he is highly regarded.
“The start was not easy, he came from a difficult experience in England. I think he’s performing well and approaching the level that he showed that season. He’s stronger, more capable. He now has all the ingredients to perform at his highest level. The other day he scored a hat-trick. He has found happiness.”
The Portuguese media has been claiming that Newcastle have already made their first moves to get Trincão signed this summer. Sporting don’t seem keen on selling, as they reportedly ‘quickly’ responded by saying he’s not moving anytime soon. But the Magpies may still put their convincing arguments on the table.
