Newcastle United have agreed a deal for Lloyd Kelly to join them on a free transfer.
The Magpies are said to be looking for another centre-back in the summer window. They have set their sights on Juventus’ Federico Gatti.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who state Newcastle are trying to take the 26-year-old away from the Serie A side.
It’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side have intensified their polls, but haven’t yet made an offer. The report adds they could ‘shortly formalise an offer’ of around €25-30m to sign the Italy international.
The Turin club will need time to evaluate and decide the next course of action if Newcastle were to table a formal bid.
Gatti, who featured regularly last season, is considered as an important player for Juve, both on the pitch and inside the dressing room.
The Old Lady haven’t included his name in the list of transferable players, but he could be sold this summer, to improve their finances. Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli is not willing to offer any discounts.
Gazzetta claim Newcastle could test Juventus’ ‘resistance’ if they were to make an offer over €30m. In that case, the Italian club could sacrifice Gatti and look for his successor in the market.
