Having already offered €40m for Bruno Guimarães according to various reports, Newcastle United have decided now is the time to splash the cash.

The latest offer to be reported, this time by L’Equipe in France, is one of €20m for Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker.

Now before you wonder how a French newspaper knows this, it’s worth remembering that the Dutchman, prior to his move to Germany, was at Paris Saint-Germain for a number of years before being sold in the summer.

L’Equipe explain that as well as the aforementioned Brazilian midfielder, Newcastle are ‘pursuing other deals in parallel to strengthen their team’.

That’s why they ‘addressed an offer of €20m (bonuses included) earlier this week’ to Leverkusen, and they add that ‘representatives of the Dutch 21-year-old are currently in the north of England to try and close the deal’.

If this goes through, then it will be his second transfer in just six months.
