While Newcastle United will need at least one transfer coming in this January for the first-team, the latest from Italy suggests the Magpies are still thinking about the future.
Ignore the stories linking Eddie Howe’s side to Matias Soulé for a moment, because there’s another Juventus youngster on the Premier League club’s radar: Dean Huijsen.
That’s according to Sky Italia, relayed by Goal Italia, who mention Newcastle as an interested party for the transfer of the young Dutch defender.
The problem is, at least for the rest of the season, they will have to watch him play for Frosinone, where Soulé is currently on loan, because he too will be heading to the Serie A side for the next six months.
Sky Italia state that their interest in Huijsen is ‘about to turn into white smoke’, meaning a deal is around the corner, as the two clubs will ‘meet again on Saturday’ to finalise the deal.
This is when they mention that Frosinone were not the only club keen on Huijsen, as he was ‘popular’ with teams such as Granada, Newcastle, Young Boys, Salernitana, Sassuolo, Verona and Empoli.
While a lot of teams would’ve been content with a loan, it’s almost certain that wasn’t what the Magpies were pursuing, and perhaps they will continue to scout him to then make their move in the summer.
