Newcastle United have joined Leicester City in showing an interest in RC Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque.
That’s according to But! Football Club, and specifically journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who provides his own information on the potential move today.
He explains that Ajorque had been ‘hoping for’ a move to Lille this summer but that is now off the table as they signed Mohmed Bayo instead.
That’s led the striker to hold talks with Hertha Berlin, who made an initial €10m offer to sign him. That was rejected by Strasbourg, who want €15m to sanction a deal.
That’s led to a ‘standby situation’ between both parties, which could allow Leicester and Newcastle to ‘step into the breach’.
Leicester have been keen for a while but Genuardi insists that Newcastle are ‘obviously interested’ as well because Chris Wood has been a ‘big disappointment’ since his arrival from Burnley in January.
The Premier League pair have now ‘launched’ contacts with their French counterparts and it’s stated a first proposal could be ‘quickly transmitted’.
Whether either are willing to match Strasbourg’s €15m valuation isn’t mentioned, just that talks are now underway after Hertha Berlin hesitated.
