Sevilla’s Diego Carlos has emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United in the winter market.

Earlier this week, reports coming out of the UK indicated the defender has asked to leave the La Liga side and also requested they accept the €42m proposal made by the Magpies.

However, ABC Sevilla reported sources close to the Spanish club have insisted the 28-year-old is not pushing for a transfer. Proof, for them, of that was that he travelled with the squad to face Valencia at Mestalla on Wednesday.

It was also explained Julen Lopetegui’s side will not consider letting the Brazilian leave, unless they receive an ‘off-market offer’.

The South American played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 1-1 draw against Los Ches. El Chiringuito TV explain again the Tyneside club are ‘very interested’ in the centre-back’s services in January.

A deal, however, is unlikely to take shape this month after Carlos confirmed ‘he is staying at Sevilla’.

“I have a lot of time left here,” the South American told El Chiringuito TV journalist Nico Rodríguez.
