Newcastle United’s interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara is ‘strong and concrete’ this month.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the interest in the midfielder after reports of an impending bid in England.
A report last night named Haidara as a target for Newcastle this month as they continue their spending this month after the signings of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.
That report stated they would have to spend as much as £80m in transfer fees and wages to get a deal over the line, but BILD have a more optimistic outlook for the Magpies.
They confirm that Newcastle’s interest is ‘strong and concrete’ but state that they would have to offer ‘more than €20m’ for RB Leipzig to ‘think about a sale’.
That is money that coach Domenico Tedesco could invest in reinforcements for the squad, so there is a temptation there if the offer is right.
The newspaper makes no mention of a specific price, unlike the report in England, which stated Newcastle would have to pay more than the £33m release clause in Haidara’s contract, which becomes active in the summer.
BILD’s suggestion of ‘more than €20m’ clearly suggests they wouldn’t have to pay as much as has been reported in England, though.
What the actual figure is remains to be seen, but the interest is there, and the stance from Germany seems to be that there is a deal to be done.
