Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz, according to a report from Italy.
In the winter market, Juventus took the midfielder on loan from the Saints with an option to make his stay permanent for €49.5m. It was repeatedly reported in Italy that the Old Lady will not exercise the purchase option, more so after he only managed 379 minutes from 12 games.
Alcaraz will return to Southampton and Newcastle could consider signing him in the summer window.
Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Eddie Howe’s side have contacted the Saints to ask for information about the 21-year-old. That’s all he has to say about the Magpies.
Newcastle have made an approach to find out the conditions needed to sign the Argentine. There could be more developments depending on what they heard back.
Southampton have secured promotion back to the Premier League and may well believe the player has a future with them.
As well as Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Russell Martin’s side. The South American joined the Saints in January 2023 and his deal lasts until 2028.
