Newcastle United were keen on signing Matheus França in January and even tabled a €20m bid, which was turned down by Flamengo.
On April 6th, journalist Mauro Sant Anna said it’s inevitable the 19-year-old will receive bids in the summer and the Magpies won’t be the only ones chasing him.
The attacking midfielder continues to be a target for Newcastle. That’s according to Coluna do Fla, who mention the Premier League side when explaining Juventus and a French club have sent a scout to monitor him closely.
Eddie Howe’s side were in talks with Flamengo for the Brazil U20 international in January. Despite the failure, the Tyneside club’s officials have ‘promised’ Flamengo ‘to open new negotiations’ for the player in the next window.
Newcastle are expected to face a ‘lot of competition’ to sign França as Juventus, Crystal Palace, an unnamed French club and other teams are also in the mix for him. There is an ‘expectation’ the South American will receive offers in the summer.
It needs to be seen if Newcastle will be able to overcome competition from other clubs to get the deal over the line.
