Just over a week ago, a report in France suggested that Newcastle United were interested in a couple of talented players in Ligue 1.
Coming from Jeunes Footeux, the article explained the Magpies, wanting to continue their good recruiting under Eddie Howe, were keeping an eye on the likes of Kevin Danso and Desiré Doué.
The former of the two is a centre-back contracted to RC Lens, who are currently having a great season, sitting second in the league ahead of Marseille and behind Paris Saint-Germain after 19 games, and is now also on Fulham’s books.
Newcastle’s interest, whether it be for January or the summer, continues to be mentioned by Jeunes Footeux on Monday.
The 24-year-old is ‘very courted’ on the transfer market, according to them, and while an exit certainly isn’t on a cards right now, ‘many Premier League and Bundesliga clubs’ are ‘following his performances very closely’, which is when the St James’ Park club and Fulham are mentioned.
Newcastle already bolstered their defence in the summer with the arrival of Sven Botman, who has hugely contributed to their great form in the top flight, where they boast the best defence.
As for Fulham, they are another surprise package this season under Marco Silva, currently sitting sixth in the table, albeit with two games in hand on Brighton, who are two points behind them.
Still, the Portuguese manager will want this to continue, and therefore a move for someone like Danso, who already knows English football from a loan spell with Southampton, could go a long way.
It’s also added that it would take a lot to convince the defender to move, who is happy in the north of France and probably wouldn’t want to move if they manage to qualify for Europe.
