The Italian media today raises the possibility of Sandro Tonali moving back from Newcastle United to AC Milan.
With the midfielder free from his suspension in a few months, there’s now some wondering whether the Rossoneri could have him back at the club.
That’s said by journalist Tiziano Crudeli, who today spoke to CalcioMercato.it. He had a word about some of Milan’s summer business, and suggested that Tonali could return from Newcastle.
“The operation would be an equal exchange with Tomori. Tonali is a player who can be useful to Milan’s midfield, but we need some other graft. We need players who can recover the ball. It’s a swap that can fit, Tomori is coming off a disappointing year. An equal exchange without investment is fine. It is clear that certain evaluations in the past have been wrong.”
Newcastle spent €64m to get Tonali from Milan last summer. The player only made 12 appearances for the Magpies, with 692 minutes on the pitch, scoring one goal.
In October the midfielder made his last appearance for the Magpies, as he was then immediately suspended following the betting investigation.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle are keen on giving him a fresh start at the club, or if they’d welcome some offers that could arrive for him in the summer.
Now since Italian clubs are used to entering long negotiations to pay as little as possible, we can only imagine how would they behave in this situation.
Tonali going without fulfilling the early promise he managed to show would surely be a shame, even if it meant Fikayo Tomori arriving.
