Everton and Newcastle United are among a host of sides in Europe chasing Real Valladolid youngster Iván Fresneda, who is set to be ‘one of the agitators’ of the January transfer market.
That’s according to AS, who say the 18-year-old has earned himself a growing list of admirers after establishing himself in the first team.
He is considered ‘one of the most promising young talents’ in European football at the moment and a ‘frantic race’ to sign him has been started in recent weeks.
Real Valladolid withstood an onslaught for his signature in the summer, eventually convincing him to sign a new contract with a release clause at €10m. That has now risen to €30m after he managed six games in the first team but could rise to €45m if he reaches 22 games.
His suitors want to avoid the last bit happening and so are now looking to make their moves in January before it is too late.
Valladolid’s games ‘have been populated’ by scouts from the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1 looking to make their final notes on the youngster ahead of a move.
Everton and Newcastle are clubs that have ‘already moved’ to try and secure his signature, while others are ‘considering it’.
Everton aren’t in need of a right-back after spending on Rangers’ Nathan Patterson last January but have been targeting younger players around Europe under Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard and Fresneda would fit the bill.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have also been targeting younger players to develop alongside the more high-profile signings and Fresneda would certainly fall in line with those plans.
They are reportedly talking with Valladolid over a figure of around €15m and are keen to move as a result of ‘the fever’ that has broken out in Europe for the defender.
