Newcastle United are interested in the signing of Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai, according to reports today.
Tutto Mercato Web says the Magpies continue to be focused on strengthening their defence, and now have €25m ‘ready’ to spend on the player.
It’s said the Magpies made ‘important contacts’ for the transfer in the last few hours.
And despite point out that Augsburg would like to keep the player until June, the outlet highlights how important an amount of €25m would be to change their minds.
It’s always a little weird to see an the chase from an English club for a German player be reported by an Italian outlet, even though TMW are used to covering many random transfers.
In this case, their interest in Uduokhai’s future may be because Napoli had been following the player as well, as they’re said to have him in a ‘shortlist’.
Now with Newcastle wiling to spend that much on the 24-year-old, it isn’t clear if the Serie A side would be able to continue fighting for his signing.
