Newcastle United’s links to Timo Werner’s agents could give them an advantage should the striker decide to leave Chelsea.

That’s according to SportBild’s Christian Falk, who says the fact Werner shares an agent with Newcastle’s Fabian Schar could be a useful connection for the Magpies to exploit.

Werner has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea over the last few weeks, having struggled for his best form again this season.

While it’s been made clear he’s not pushing for an exit at the minute, nor are the Blues looking to move him on, the player did admit that if things don’t work out, he could look to move elsewhere.

That’s opened the door to rumours about Newcastle, who have been linked repeatedly over the last week following their takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

They would have the money to bring Werner to the North East and satisfy his wage demands, but it seems they also have another ace up their sleeve.

“That’s a very difficult one because, of course, there are a lot of things that speak against it,” Falk told BILD.

“Of course, he wants to play in the Champions League, but at Chelsea, he said that if it doesn’t work out with the starting eleven, he’ll have to think about something.

“Then you have to find someone who will pay €20m in wages, and Newcastle is naturally ideal for that, especially as his management has a new player in Fabian Schar.

“He’s in constant contact with the club and then with the management, which means the paths are short.

“As soon as Werner gives a signal that he would like to leave Chelsea, Newcastle are definitely in the conversation.”

Now, before getting excited Newcastle fans, we would warn you to temper your expectations slightly at this point.

Falk is well known for his love of a transfer rumour, and the Newcastle takeover is pretty much Christmas come early for him in that regard.

While he does have an inside track on German players, at the moment, he’s happily rolling around and enjoying talking about any rumour he can get his hands on, whether it’s related to German football or not.
