Atlético Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco would not turn down an approach from Newcastle United in January, if they show an interest in him again.
That’s according to Marca, who say the Belgian is considering his future and would now welcome any offers from the Magpies after they showed an interest in the summer transfer window.
The newspaper explains that after experiencing an ‘irregular’ 2022, Carrasco has lost his place as an undisputed first choice under Diego Simeone.
That, coupled with Belgium’s poor performance at the World Cup means it is now time to discuss the 29-year-old’s future seriously.
He has a contract until 2024 meaning the January transfer window and the summer window are Atlético’s last opportunities to ‘cash in on him’ and they would welcome any bids.
Carrasco has a release clause worth €60m and it seems unlikely anyone would get close to that figure, but Atlético’s ‘intention’ is to see how the land lies.
Their hope is that former suitors Newcastle might revive their interest, with Eddie Howe’s side making an effort last January after signing Kieran Trippier.
They ‘approached the player’s entourage’ at the time to update him on their ‘interest in acquiring his services’ and were linked with a move in the summer also.
Carrasco ‘said no’ the first time around but the scenario has now changed for him and his would be ‘more in the affirmative’ if they were to ask again.
He is unhappy with what has happened at the club, particularly in negotiations over a new deal, and knows that at 30-years-old next year he is ‘facing the last big contract of his career’.
Newcastle could certainly pay him what he would want, and he is now seemingly open to holding talks if they want to make a third attempt to secure his signature.
