Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United are both interested in Corinthians youngster Pedrinho, according to claims from Brazil.
Goal Brasil today features a story claiming the 17-year-old has been drawing attention from several European sides.
The likes of Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and Zenit are said to be competing with Brighton and Newcastle for the signing.
Corinthians are now expected to receive offers for the transfer in the summer window, and the club’s intention is to make him the biggest sale in their history.
The youngster is protected by a €50m release clause. It’s insinuated those clubs must outbid Zenit, because in negotiations for striker Yuri Alberto last year, the Russian club guaranteed the preference for Pedrinho, and have the right to match any bid.
That said, given the current Russia situation, such a clause would be hard to enforce.
It’s probably safe to say that Brighton and Newcastle have been following Pedrinho since his time at Corinthians’ youth ranks. That’s because the player only made his debut with the first team at the weekend, as he played for nine minutes in a match against Santo André.
