Newcastle United showed interest in Marcelo Brozović before he signed an extension at Inter Milan last March. The Magpies were ready to offer him a deal worth €8m per season but he refused it in order to continue at the San Siro.

Eddie Howe’s side are back in the picture to sign the 30-year-old in the summer. That’s at least what Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin told Calciomercato.it’s TvPlay.

He claims Newcastle and Barcelona have rekindled their interest in the midfielder, who is no longer untouchable at Inter.

Franck Kessié left AC Milan and joined the Catalan club as a free agent last summer. There have been claims recently indicating the Nerazzurri are showing interest in him.

The journalist mentioned the Tyneside club’s interest in Brozović when explaining why it wouldn’t make sense for Inter to sign the Ivory Coast international.

“Inter want a physical midfielder, many say Kessié but Kessié isn’t necessarily the profile. A player with similar characteristics is needed to replace [Roberto] Gagliardini who will be released,” he said.

“Given that [Hakan] Çalhanoğlu can be a playmaker and [Kristjan] Asllani is there, Brozović can be expendable, but we also have to deal with a player who rejected important offers last year to stay, refusing offers from Newcastle, Tottenham and Barcelona. Brozović is fine at Inter. Newcastle and Barcelona are already back on the charge.”

Biasin doesn’t mention whether Brozović would be interested in joining Newcastle, if they were to return with another ‘important offer’ in the summer.
