Aston Villa and Newcastle ‘have already spoken’ to Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram but he is waiting for a bigger offer to arrive from England before deciding his future.
That’s according to FC Inter News, who cover the player today and their interest in signing the French star on a free in the summer.
The website insists that Inter are in the picture for Thuram and despite his name slipping out of focus in the media, he remains a target for the Serie A side.
They are ‘still a candidate’ despite the player insisting he will see out the season in Germany before deciding his future.
The Nerazzurri made a ‘concrete proposal’ to the player some time ago, offering €5m net for the next five years and using the Italian Growth Decree to their advantage.
They understand, though, that the offer could easily be surpassed by his other suitors and particularly foreign clubs.
At the moment the only serious alternative is Bayern Munich but they have cooled their interest as they seek to sign Eric Choupo Moting to a new deal and look at a different type of forward in the summer.
In England, Newcastle and Aston Villa ‘have already spoken’ to his agent and were ‘expressing interest’ in a deal but have never taken the plunge or gone beyond that.
That is giving Inter confidence they could win the race for his signature for now, although Thuram and his entourage are waiting for a ‘more economically advantageous’ offer than Inter’s to turn up in the Premier League.
We all know that Aston Villa or Newcastle, particularly the latter, aren’t short on money or have shown little reluctance to splash it on fees and wages for players in the last few transfer windows, so that’s perhaps what he’s waiting on.
