On Monday, Il Resto del Carlino stated Toulouse would favour negotiating with Newcastle United over Bologna for Logan Costa. It was also suggested their asking price of €25m won’t be a problem for the Premier League side.
The Serie A side’s efforts to sign the centre-back have been made difficult because of the Magpies.
That’s according to Quotidiano Sportivo, who say Newcastle have already asked about the 23-year-old. Their title says the Ligue 1 side are awaiting the Tyneside club’s ‘mega offer’.
Newcastle’s approach for the defender has blocked Bologna’s attempts to acquire his signature, resulting in a ‘soap opera’.
The Ligue 1 side have received a €15m bid [including bonuses] from Bologna and are hoping for Eddie Howe’s side to make an offer between €20m and €25m.
Bologna are waiting to find out whether Newcastle will make an approach to sign the Cape Verde international or decide to bet on others like AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw or Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.
It’s not clear where Costa will end up, but the Italian club are worried about losing him to Newcastle and have started looking for alternatives. For now, Howe’s side have only made contact to ask about the defender.
