Fluminense youngster Matheus Reís has ended up on the agenda of Newcastle United and Liverpool, according to Jovenes Futbolistas MX.
The 17-year-old has made a handful of appearances for Fluminense U20 and is yet to make his senior debut. That hasn’t stopped the Magpies and the Reds from making an approach for him.
A few weeks ago, both Newcastle and Liverpool met Reís’ entourage to discuss a potential deal.
Jovenes Futbolistas MX say the Premier League duo see a ‘lot of potential’ in the winger and seem him as a bet for the future. This could be why they have decided to act fast.
As well as Newcastle and Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and AS Monaco have also asked about the teenager. He’s set to make his first team debut soon and is expected to receive formal offers in the summer window.
This claim is relayed by SDP Noticias, who add the attacker has a €50m release clause. The outlet states Newcastle and Liverpool are set to battle for Reís, but it’s unlikely for either of them to trigger his clause.
If there’s an agreement for the transfer, he won’t be able to arrive in the UK until he turns 18 years of age in April 2025. Reís has represented Brazil U17 despite being born in Mexico City.
