Newcastle United are ‘among the favourites’ to sign Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, having long been interested in him.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the Magpies are ‘attacking again’ for the player as he continues to impress in the Bundesliga and Europa League.
The newspaper explains that the top clubs are ‘getting serious’ about Diaby, who has admitted himself that “it’s fun when many clubs are interested in you.”
He arrived at Leverkusen for €15m from PSG in 2019 and this summer is ‘moving on’ after developing his game with the German side since.
His plans have already been discussed with those in charge at the club, who have made it clear to any suitors that he will cost four times as much as they paid for him.
Every further good performances, particularly in Europe, is only adding to that price but it is not deterring his suitors.
Newcastle are ‘among the favourites’ for his signature, and already wanted to sign Diaby in the January transfer window. At the time, Leverkusen were not willing to do a deal.
That is a decision which has worked out as he has continued to impress and raise his asking price, something Newcastle have been watching from afar.
They bought Anthony Gordon from Everton in January, but he has ‘failed’ to impress so far and now they are ‘attacking’ for Diaby once again.
Their owners are willing to continue backing Eddie Howe with money and will do so again to get Diaby. Indeed, it’s made clear that it ‘won’t fail because of money’. In other words, it will be down to Diaby’s choice.
