Despite signing Chris Wood by triggering his £25m release clause at Burnley, Newcastle United still feel like they could do with another striker.
That’s the feeling being put out there by the transfer rumours surrounding the Magpies, as goalscorers are still being linked with them.
The latest in a long line of names is that of RC Lens’ Ignatius Ganago, who is currently with the Cameroon national team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The story comes from L’Equipe, who explain they have become ‘interested’ in the ‘past few days’ to the player’s situation as they try and sign ‘two forwards’ to complete Eddie Howe’s squad.
That’s why Newcastle would have ‘already contacted the entourage’ of the 22-year-old, who is under contract in the north of France until 2024, to try and understand the ‘feasibility of the transfer’.
As for Lens in all this, ‘they aren’t in a position where they are obliged to sell’, and their manager likes the competition his squad provides, which includes that of Ganago when he isn’t away on international duty.
So far, the former OGC Nice man has scored three goals in 13 appearances in Ligue 1, although only seven of those have been starts.
