On Wednesday, we covered a report from France claiming that Newcastle were looking at Angers’ third string goalkeeper, Denis Petric.

At the time, it didn’t really make much sense, as the Championship winners already had three shot stoppers in their squad, so we suggested this could be in case one of them (most likely Tim Krul) was on their way out.

Well, it appears that our gut feeling was correct, as De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij revealed on his Twitter account the Dutch goalkeeper is on the verge of signing for fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Considering Brighton spent around £6m on Mathew Ryan this summer, it seems unlikely that Krul is coming in to be the club’s number one, but he could be seen as an upgrade on Niki Mäenpää as the Australian’s backup.

The deal taking the Netherlands international from St James’ Park to the AMEX Stadium is said to be a loan, but the details are yet to filter, so we’ll have to wait and see if there is an option to buy or not.

Tim Krul spent last season on loan at AZ Alkmaar, where he made 14 Eredivisie appearances, conceding 25 goals and only picking up two clean sheets.
