Newcastle United have become the latest club to join the chase for Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt.

The attacking midfielder arrived at the Signal Iduna Park from Bayer Leverkusen for €25m in 2019. Bild state BVB considered his performances to be ‘sloppy’. That view has changed this season, with him managing nine goals and five assists from 33 matches.

His displays have attracted attention from a few clubs and Newcastle are included in the list.

At the same time, it has also convinced the Bundesliga side’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, to offer the 26-year-old a new contract worth €7m per year. Brandt’s current deal runs down in 2024.

The Germany international wants to focus on the final stage of this season. Therefore, his contact ‘poker’ will drag on for a while. Kehl is keen to have better clarity on the situation as soon as possible as the player is on the ‘wish list’ of Newcastle and a few other clubs.

It’s explained Brandt has told those close to him that a move to the Premier League would ‘definitely appeal to him’, where the Magpies have him on their target list.

Apart from Eddie Howe’s side, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Napoli are also in the mix to sign the Dortmund player.
