Despite already having Heurelho Gomes and Daniel Bachmann at the club, Watford decided they needed another goalkeeper, plumping on Udinese’s Orestis Karnezis on loan.

The Greece international has yet to feature for the Hornets, but he did make an appearance on the bench during the club’s 2-0 victory against Southampton.

Still settling into his new experience after three years in Italy and a year in Spain, the 32-year-old is hoping to discover what the Premier League is all about in the coming months, as he explained in an interview with AreaNapoli on Friday.

Describing this summer as ‘the right time to change’ clubs, the goalkeeper reiterated his intent to ‘work hard to understand how English football works’.

He said: “For me, a new adventure has just begun. I moved to another country and came to what everyone calls the most demanding league in the world. I want to prove myself here to show I can play at this level. I will do everything to succeed.

“I arrived in England a little late, on the last day of the transfer window, and I have to find out what this team is all about as soon as possible so I can integrate as best I can”.

Giving the usual anecdotes about missing the Italian food since arriving in England, Karnezis also admitted the decision to move to Watford was a family one, one they chose together, as his wife knew move to the Premier League was a great opportunity.

Karnezis won’t be all alone at Vicarage Road, however, as he will once again team up with Roberto Pereyra, with whom he spent a season at Udinese.

He said: “It’s great to be able to share this moment. Max is a great teammate and a top-level player of great quality. I’m proud to be able to train with him”.

While he might have to wait a bit longer to get his first start considering Watford’s good start to the season under Marco Silva, the goalkeeper is still looking forward to the clash against Manchester City at the weekend.

He explained: “City are trying to do their best. They want to be the number one team in Europe, but it’s not easy. They appointed one of the best managers in the world, and buy top players during every window.

“This is a very strong team, but, in football, you must never be afraid of anyone. What matters is putting all that you have on the pitch: your passion, your discipline and your desire to do what we’ll do this weekend”.

Pep Guardiola, you’ve been warned.
