Liverpool are formulating a plan to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with a new offer set to come later in the window.
Friday’s print edition of L’Equipe reports the Reds have a transfer plan to sign the 23-year-old before the end of the summer transfer window.
PSG focus on arrivals
The newspaper explains that PSG are currently focused on arrivals. They’ve made significant progress on a deal for Ajax’s Mika Godts and Barcelona’s Ferran Torres.
The former is closer than the latter, with an agreement now close between PSG and Ajax.
The deal for him is expected to exceed €50m.
Once that, and the deal for Torres, are finalised, the Champions League holders will then turn their attention to departures. Barcola, and youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, are at the top of the list of candidates.
Regarding Barcola, Liverpool have ‘decided to wait’ in recent days. Why that is the case, isn’t made clear. The Reds are planning to return with a new offer. That will come in the final ten days of the transfer window. There is no mention of the offer that they intend to make.
Liverpool play risky game
Nor is it explained why they have decided to pause and wait. Perhaps the idea is to allow PSG to sort out incomings, therefore creating a need to move Barcola on. Or perhaps Liverpool want sort their own exits before moving for Barcola definitively.
For instance, a potential sale of Cody Gakpo to the likes of Tottenham would then provide some of the funds required to secure Barcola from PSG.
It does leave Andoni Iraola’s side in a precarious position, though. Assuming Bradley Barcola is the man intended to replace Mohamed Salah on the right, then it would have been preferable to have him in early.
Instead, Liverpool now face the prospect of starting the season with Federico Chiesa as the only recognised right-winger in the squad.
