A couple of months ago, reports from the German media claimed that Bayern Munich are interested in Chelsea fullback Ian Maatsen.
With the player having a satisfying loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, it was claimed he drew attention from their rivals as well.
Back at that stage, no one imagined that Vincent Kompany could take charge of Bayern Munich in the summer. Now that this is happening, Bild returns with a new story on the scenario.
The outlet recalls that the coach knows Maatsen from their time at Burnley, when he was loaned by Chelsea to the Championship side.
Bild poins out that Kompany and the player are ‘very fond of each other’, and there could now be a ‘lobby’ for the Bundesliga giants to buy him.
The problem is that Borussia Dortmund are also interested in making his loan permanent, so the upcoming Bayern manager would need to ‘do some convincing right away’.
The story points out that Maatsen’s release clause at Chelsea is worth around €40m. With the two German clubs battling, it becomes likelier that the Blues can make a big sale with him this summer.
