Earlier on Wednesday, RMC Sport came out with an article surrounding the future of Will Still and his recent meetings with Sunderland.
The Black Cats are currently on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Tony Mowbray, and the 31-year-old has been linked with a move, mostly due to his own attempts to get the attention of the Championship side.
RMC Sport also mentioned a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave next summer, and made it sound as if he could leave fairly easily, even for free, but L’Equipe make it clear that is very much not the case.
The French newspaper also mention the clause, but state that should Sunderland come forward now for him, they will need to pay an amount that will ‘surpass the amount of the release clause set for next summer’.
The amount of said clause has yet to filter through, but it’s therefore explicitly stated that any club who wants Will Still now will need to pay Stade de Reims a ‘serious financial compensation’, and still cough up cash once the season is over as well.
Therefore, if Sunderland do want Still, they will have to open their wallet, which seems to put him at the back of the queue, according to a previous report from Foot Mercato, as their intent is to spend as little as possible on their next manager.
