Roma have not given up hope of signing West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca this summer, adopting an attitude of ‘never say never’ in their transfer efforts.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say Roma chief Tiago Pinto has returned from a ‘blitz in London’ with the player’s approval for the move but without a deal in place with West Ham.

They report that the Hammers have rejected Roma’s initial proposal for a loan deal for the striker, with Pinto travelling to London to make the offer but knowing it wouldn’t be accepted.

He gave Scamacca an ‘impeccable speech’ to convince him of the move to Roma, explaining to him that Roma could help him get back to his best after a difficult season at the London Stadium.

The striker is convinced but West Ham aren’t at this moment in time, believing they can do better than a loan deal and expecting better offers to arrive in the coming weeks.

Even if they were to accept a loan deal, they would want one that includes a guaranteed purchase clause in the deal to ensure they can get their money back.

Pinto and Roma cannot guarantee that at the moment, but their hope is that the situation will change in the coming weeks and a ‘meeting point’ can be found between themselves and West Ham.

Either they will be able to make a better offer at that point or the Hammers will be at a point where they want to get a deal done and accept what Roma can offer.

They believe they can rely on the will of the striker to help them out, as Pinto has already met with his agency, Stellar, and received a positive response from them on a possible move.

That means a major hurdle has already been cleared but without an agreement in place with West Ham, it is a matter of waiting and hoping things fall in their favour.
