Bayern Munich’s attempt to sign João Palhinha from Fulham last summer continues to be a big topic in the rumour mill, and Whites manager Marco Silva has just spoken about the subject.
The coach was interviewed this week by DAZN Portugal, and A Bola feature his quotes about the what happened in the transfer market.
Silva claimed that the big interest in Fulham players was an issue for the club during pre-season, and he made it clear to the club board at the time.
“It’s not an excuse, but it wasn’t a normal pre-season. I made it clear to those in charge that I wasn’t happy at the time, because what happened in pre-season wasn’t normal,” Marco Silva told DAZN.
“It was a consequence of the previous season, of the great success that this club had. Possibly, in the last few years of the club, there had never been a summer with so many offers, so much harassment of our players,” he said.
It turns out that Fulham ended up only making one big sale last summer, which was Aleksandar Mitrovic’s move to Al-Hilal, for over €50m. The Whites then managed to hold all of their stars for the 2023/24 season.
Silva was also asked about the possibility of the same thing happening in the January transfer window, although he didn’t really want to predict that.
“There will naturally be interest in some players. If you ask me whether or not I’d like to have the same feeling at the next January market? Of course not.”
It’s very likely that Silva said a lot more in the interview, and these are just a few bits released by DAZN before the full conversation goes to air.
