The thing with Marcel Brands dragging out his potential move to Everton is that it can’t go on forever.

Indeed, it can’t really go on for much longer, so with De Telegraaf saying there will be progress and an announcement one way or the other ‘this week’, they probably really mean it this time.

PSV have a lot of transfer work to do. There’s players set to be leaving as their loans end, others looking to go on permanent transfers, and a whole lot of work to be done bringing in replacements and improvements.

That is widely the role of a director of football or technical director, so Brands needs to commit to PSV or let someone else do it.

Then there’s the same scenario at Everton, if the club have targeted Brands then they clearly feel there’s a role to be filled and if it’s not the Dutchman then it probably needs to be someone else.

Brands has long fancied a move to the Premier League, with someone close to him seemingly leaking claims of Chelsea and Everton interest, and it would be odd if he didn’t accept.

If he doesn’t arrive at Goodison Park it may well suggest the offer wasn’t so strong in the first place.
