Last month, Newcastle United let goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos join Sevilla on loan.
Ørjan Nyland started this season in goal for the La Liga club. Matías Almeyda replaced him with the 31-year-old against Deportivo Alavés on September 20th.
The Newcastle man has done well so far and has been able to maintain his place in the starting lineup.
Diario de Sevilla, a newspaper local to the Andalusian club, is impressed with the stopper’s performances so far. They point out his save in the 94th minute against Rayo Vallecano was ‘crucial’ for Sevilla to secure three points.
Vlachodimos moved to England when Nottingham Forest signed him in 2023 and played seven games for the Reds. He was sold to the Magpies in July 2024, where he was restricted to one appearance.
The Greece international has played just over 700 minutes in the last two seasons but this hasn’t impacted him at the La Liga side. His long-term future could be in Sevilla if they can convince Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side paid €24m to buy Vlachodimos and this, coupled with Sevilla’s own financial situation, meant the Spanish club couldn’t agree a purchase option.
With the goalkeeper impressing, Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón is expected to negotiate with Newcastle next summer.
On Monday, Estadio Deportivo reported Vlachodimos wants Newcastle to sell him for an affordable price next summer. A figure of €5m was mentioned and whilst that may sound ridiculously cheap, Sevilla have a record of lowballing.
