Liverpool chief Julian Ward is in negotiations over a move to Ajax, but his salary is likely to be a problem they’ll have to work out.
That’s according to De Telegraaf and journalist Mike Verweij, relayed by MSN, who says that ‘negotiations are ongoing’ for the transfer chief to make the move to the Netherlands.
Ward is set to leave his role as Liverpool’s sporting director at the end of the season, with the Reds announcing his plans in November last year.
Ward assumed the role from his predecessor Michael Edwards last summer and had been widely credited as playing a major role in much of Liverpool’s transfer successes in recent years.
His decision to leave Anfield was believed to have come as a shock, with reports indicating that he intended to take a break from football after more than a decade with the Reds.
However, he has been linked with a number of roles since the news was announced, with Ajax reportedly eyeing up his signature.
The Dutch side are keen to reshape their football structure after a difficult summer last year and several of their signings failing to impress this year.
Verweij now says that talks are underway, but the salary that Ward was collecting at Liverpool is likely to be a problem they’ll have to overcome.
“Negotiations are ongoing,” MSN report him saying.
“If Ajax approaches someone in the Netherlands, they immediately say ‘yes’, also because the salary is good.
“Things are different for a Liverpool director. He will have to come this way from England and earned much more there.”
