Rubén Sellés should soon return to the bench for the first time since leaving Sheffield United, according to multiple claims from Spain.
El Periódico de Aragón report Real Zaragoza are ‘closer’ to appointing the former Sheffield United boss as their new manager.
The Segunda División side have endured a difficult start to the season, winning only one of their 10 matches. They are currently bottom of the table and earlier this month, they parted ways with manager Gabi.
Emilio Larraz succeeded Gabi and Real Zaragoza suffered a 5-0 defeat to CyD Leonesa at the weekend. The report states the latest loss has convinced the club to look for another manager again.
This is where Sellés comes into the picture, and he’s without a job since leaving Sheffield United. He took over the Blades in July and was shown the exit door after they suffered six consecutive defeats.
The Spaniard, who has never managed in his home country, can quickly bounce back after his Sheffield United exit. El Periódico de Aragón report Real Zaragoza’s plan is to appoint him and move Larraz to the reserve team.
AS claim Sellés is the best placed candidate to replace Larraz at the Spanish club. After their latest defeat, it’s claimed Real Zaragoza have ‘intensified negotiations’ with the 42-year-old’s agent.
Monday’s edition of AS states only the official announcement is pending for Real Zaragoza to confirm Sellés’ appointment.
