If there’s one thing you cannot accuse Pogba of lacking, it’s confidence.

The Manchester United midfielder, who moved back to his old club from Juventus in a world record transfer over the summer, once declared he would ‘win the Ballon d’Or’ one day.

When he did, few questioned him, such is his potential, expressing tremendous amounts of talent during his time at Juventus.

However, one person did, not because he doesn’t think he cannot achieve it, but mostly because he felt the player’s attitude isn’t the right one to have.

Winner of the prestigious award in 1958, France legend Raymond Kopa was interviewed by France Football in their Ballon d’Or special edition, and was asked what his reaction was to Pogba’s declaration.

He said: “I wouldn’t have said that. I would have preferred it if he said: ‘I hope to win it one day!’ You see the difference! You need to have some nerve to say that, especially since he’ll need other means than his own at the moment. He should start by consistently having good seasons, and then we’ll see.”

While Pogba did say winning the Ballon d’Or ‘will come with time’ during his MUTV interview, the player has also said a few times he ‘hoped to win’ the award one day.

At 23 years of age, the player still has many seasons ahead of him to achieve his goal, and if he does, the ‘nerve’ will automatically be branded as ‘confidence’ instead.

Before that, though, finding form at Manchester United is essential.
