Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai wants to play for Hungary in this international break amid Arne Slot’s comments.
The 25-year-old is one of the most played Liverpool men this season, and Slot has mainly used him as a midfielder and a right-back.
To put it in context, he has played 3,848 minutes from 43 matches, scoring 12 goals and contributing eight assists.
Szoboszlai missed two Premier League matches due to suspension and started in another 29 matches so far.
He contributes both while attacking and defending, and his statistics per game in the league make that clear.
| Premier League 2025/26 | |
|---|---|
| Key passes | 2 |
| Big chances created | 7 |
| Shots on target | 0.7 |
| Interceptions | 0.8 |

At the weekend, the Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at The Amex.

Milos Kerkez scored the equaliser for Liverpool in the first half. However, Danny Welbeck’s second goal of the match, in 56th minute, helped the Seagulls secure all three points.
After the match, Arne Slot made requests to national team managers to spare those Liverpool players who have have played a lot of minutes. He wanted a little help during this international break.
“The players need a break. I would like to ask the national team managers not to overload players who are already overworked, such as Mac Allister, Gravenberch or Szoboszlai, even more.
“So, I am very confident that these players won’t play 180 minutes in two matches,” he said.
Liverpool manager’s message not encouraged
Tuesday’s edition of Blikk relays Arne Slot’s comments and provide Hungary manager Marco Rossi’s stance on Dominik Szoboszlai.
It’s explained the national team boss is ‘unlikely’ to make a decision on the Liverpool star depending upon Slot’s request.
Blikk insist it’s also difficult to imagine that the former RB Leipzig man would not want to play for his country. Both matches are in Hungary, Szoboszlai is the national superstar, and his adoring public will expect his appearance.
Slot guided the Reds to title success last season. However, his side haven’t enjoyed a good run in the league this season.
They are fifth in the table, 21 points behind league leaders Arsenal, and a point ahead of sixth placed Chelsea. Szoboszlai admitted in January he isn’t sure why Liverpool have been dropping points.
Slot wants most of his players to be fit and fresh as they push to secure a berth in the Champions League.
