After sorting himself out a new contract at Manchester United this summer, David De Gea seemingly set his sights on something else.
We covered a report yesterday that the Spanish goalkeeper was looking to buy himself a new club, namely Elche.
It was claimed that Elche are the United goalkeeper’s boyhood club and he and agent Jorge Mendes were willing to offer €18m to buy the club.
Super Deporte cover the situation today and claim that the sale process around the club remains a ‘mystery’.
They explain Christian Bragarnik, a representative, held a meeting with José Sepulcre, the majority shareholder at the club, at the Martínez Valero ground.
However, the negotiation ‘stagnated’, and that’s when De Gea emerged as a potential buyer instead. They confirm he would be looking to buy the club for around €18m.
The Manchester United goalkeeper has a long association with the club. He is a member, while his father is a native of the area.
It’s not explained whether he is now at the front of the queue, just that he, and Bragarnik, remain potential buyers.
However, should he be buying the club, it’s likely to happen sooner rather than later. Super Deporte explain that a sale ‘will occur in the coming months’.
