Manchester United secured a much needed win at the weekend, beating Chelsea during a torrential downpour at Old Trafford. The Blues went down to ten men early on in the game, and the numbers were later evened up as Casemiro was shown a second yellow card.

That was perhaps a harsh decision and it saw Ruben Amorim’s side battling to get over the line and clinch those vital three points. A loss would have piled further pressure on the manager and put his position in more danger.

As often happens, a win can change everything and there’s now renewed optimism ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League matches.

There’s also renewed optimism at Benfica, who appointed Jose Mourinho as manager last week and have seen the club receive attention from around the world for doing so.

Anyone connected with Portuguese football is being asked for their opinion on the appointment, and that includes Ruben Amorim.

Following Manchester United’s weekend victory, the manager was asked about Mourinho and Benfica. Portuguese newspaper A Bola quote him as saying: “He’s the best Portuguese manager, and that won’t change. He’s always been a very special person in our football, but also in the world, and he opened all the doors for us.

“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Jose Mourinho. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for you in Portugal, and we’re going to enjoy it. But that’s the way it is, and we’ll be here, watching to see what happens, but focused only on Manchester, and that will be my only club.”
