On October 24th, Radu Drăgușin’s agent Florin Manea revealed that he’s had meetings with Newcastle United over a potential deal for the Genoa player. His mother had also talked about a dream move to England.
Later that month, the agent further backed up the Magpies’ interest and stated the Serie A side would need around €30m to sanction the defender’s sale.
Earlier this week, Gianluca Di Marzio stated the 21-year-old is set to extend his contract. Two days ago, TuttoMercatoWeb reported there would be a gentleman’s agreement in the new deal, which can allow Newcastle to sign the defender for around €30m.
“I’m fine, I feel in very good shape. I am going through a moment that can only make me happy. I will not leave Genoa, we are in discussions for a new contract, but these things are secondary,” he said.
“It is important to have results and to have as easy a championship as possible. It’s a very pleasant feeling. It means that your work is also appreciated by the rest. My focus is to develop and evolve as best I can.”
The Romania international’s latest comments could come as a blow for Eddie Howe’s side, after his agent earlier insisted about Newcastle’s desire to sign the player.
Drăgușin has managed a goal and an assist from 14 games this season. He scored in Genoa’s 1-0 win over Hellas Verona last Friday.
