Jannik Vestergaard has been urged to leave Leicester City in the winter market in order to have any hope of regaining his place in the Denmark national team.
The Foxes signed the centre-back from Southampton in 2021 and he made 20 appearances in all competitions in his debut season. This includes six league starts, and his last appearance in the Premier League came in February.
This term, the Denmark international has been restricted to two appearances and both of them came in the EFL Cup. Brendan Rodgers has not even included the 30-year-old in the match day squad for majority of the league ties.
His situation at Leicester had an impact in his place in the national team. Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand left the defender out of the squad for the World Cup. Former Hobro FK manager and Danish football expert Allan Kuhn has now advised Vestergaard to change clubs in the January window.
“He must leave that club as soon as possible if he wants to return to the national team again. I think it is completely fair Hjulmand has not selected a player who has not played at all in the Premier League this season,” Kuhn told Viaplay, relayed by Tipsbladet.
Vestergaard has been in England since 2018 and Kuhn is of the belief his compatriot can join another Premier League side, if he were to leave Leicester.
“Yes, I would think so, but he must think very carefully about his next career choice, that he will play continuously, because we have seen that when he does, he has been a fantastic player for the Danish national team. Also, for Southampton before he came to Leicester,” he explained.
